AI Portfolio Projects, Step-by-Step
The jump from doing follow-along tutorial projects to building real AI applications can feel super intimidating. And that's why I made this video!
In this week's video, you can watch me completely rebuild an app from scratch, following the same basic process that I have used to build production AI and machine learning systems at companies like Amazon and Coursera.
The steps are as follows:
Get clear on why I'm making a project in the first place, and make sure this is a project that accomplishes my goals. In this case, I want to learn, demonstrate my skills to employers, and potentially get real users.
I work through initial scoping to get really clear on what I'm building and why.
I set up a process for spec-driven development so that I'm confident that I'm using AI in the right way.
I create an MVP.
Then I work in phases, following a project scoping doc that I've developed over the course of several years. If you want to download it, you can get a free copy here.
As I work, I have structured evaluation set up both for the software and AI components.
I make sure I have monitoring set up properly.
Then I deploy!
Finally, I make sure that everything is documented properly and, in this case, that I have everything set up so that it's a dope portfolio piece.
